Cromoteca support

Cromoteca is a macOS app for downloading reference media, transcribing it locally, and organizing a private, searchable archive on your Mac. If something isn't working, start here.

Installing the app

Cromoteca ships as a signed, notarized .dmg. Open the disk image, drag Cromoteca into your Applications folder, and launch it.

macOS won't open the app (Gatekeeper)

If macOS shows a warning when you first open Cromoteca, right-click (or Control-click) the app icon and choose Open, then confirm. You only need to do this once. This can happen on a fresh install or if your security settings are strict; once approved, the app launches normally.

Transcription notes

Transcription runs locally on your Mac. Clear speech transcribes well; heavy accents, overlapping voices, music, and noisy audio are less reliable. Treat transcripts as a searchable working record and verify important quotes against the source.

Screen recording (Capture)

Capture records the screen with macOS's built-in screen-capture and saves a ready-to-use .mp4 directly to your chosen destination folder — a normal video file, not a project. Use Reveal in Finder after stopping to jump to the saved recording. The first time you record, macOS asks for permission: enable Cromoteca under System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Screen Recording, then relaunch if prompted. Recordings are saved only to your folder — Cromoteca never uploads them.

Checking for updates

Cromoteca checks cromoteca.app for new versions and updates through the app's built-in updater. Free updates are included for the current major version. If an update check fails, confirm you're online and try again later.

Purchases & downloads

Cromoteca is a $20 one-time purchase. Checkout is handled securely by Stripe, and your download is delivered after purchase. If your download link expired or you lost it, contact support and include your purchase email.
